The Merc Auras
When you buy a mercenary, it could be good to know in which difficulty to buy - to get which aura!
For those of you that don’t know;
Desert Mercenaries Act 2 :
Normal
Offensive: Blessed aim
Combat: Prayer
Defensive: Defiance
Nightmare
Offensive: Might
Combat: Thorns
Defensive: Holy Freeze
Hell
Offensive: Blessed Aim
Combat: Prayer
Defensive: Defiance

Other useful mercs :
Barb (cs barb) might need increase attack speed (ias):
If you want “fanatism” aura - buy an Act1 merc and use the rune word faith (in a normal bow).
Hammerdin(Cs-Pala) needs an act1 or act3 merc.
Act1 merc could use ICE runeword or (better) use an act three cold merc with the runeword “Lawbringer” in a 3 socked low damage sword.
I would say it depends on game style of player which merc with what specific gear will be most useful. I am well satisfied for example:
Necromancer-Summoner=>
with Beast(Fanaticism aura) in hand and a2 mercenary(nightmare)with Might aura,then as weapon Pride (Concentration aura),Bramble (Thorns aura),then summons,especially mellee minions are extremely effective.
Paladin-Hammerdin=>
here i would say if player will choose a2 mercenary for Insight(meditation) placed into normal class weapons,that lowers chance that merc get killed of one hit with Iron Maiden Curse,,ofc then best is one with Defiance aura,then Paladin and ofc all members of party will get very nice defense
Amazon-Javelin=>
here as at almost all elemental and poison casters and fighters is best choice ofc Infinity (Conviction aura),lowers resists(especially lightning resist) and defense,it is very nice choice. At casters with very fast cast rate is very effective a2 nightmare mercenary with holy freeze aura for it has knockback so at fast tele especially in Worldstone levels it makes feeling that monsters are not even there ^^’
At characters specialized on Chaos Sanctury runs are ofc prefered a1 and a3 mercs,for they will not die of Iron Maiden curse as a2 and a5 mercs…^^’
All of you should keep in mind that the mercs from normal difficulty will have better stats than the ones from hell difficulty when they have the same level and aura.
That’s why you should preferably buy your prayer merc in normal rather than in hell.
